Why grind the slab instead of just etching it?
Acid etching only roughs the very top of the concrete and leaves residue behind, so coatings over an etched floor tend to peel. Diamond grinding cuts a real mechanical profile into the slab so the primer bonds into the concrete itself. On the older Irving slabs especially, grinding is the only prep that holds. It is the step the fast crews skip, and it is the step Cody never does.
Can you coat over an old peeling epoxy floor?
Usually the old coating has to come off first. We run an adhesion check, and if the previous floor is lifting or was put down over bad prep, we grind it back to clean concrete before rebuilding. Coating over a failing layer just puts a new floor on top of an old problem, and it will fail in the same spots.
Do I need to move everything out of the garage?
