Where It Works

Three Spaces Where Flake Earns Its Keep

Same broadcast technique, three very different problems it solves.

01

Garage & Workshop

The most-popular system for residential garages. Hides oil drips, hot-tire scuffs, and slab imperfections under a colorful, slip-resistant finish.

02

Commercial Kitchens

Wash-down compatible, anti-slip, and code-friendly for back-of-house spaces. The flake texture grips a wet floor where smooth epoxy slides.

03

Basements & Utility

Below-grade slabs need vapor-tolerant systems. Flake epoxy with the right primer hides moisture mottling and takes a finished-room look.

What Dallas Says After the Cure

Unprompted, unedited. The floor speaks first — the owners speak second.

★★★★★
Garage Install
“The prep work was night and day versus the quote I got from a one-day installer. They diamond-ground the slab, chased every crack, and pulled moisture readings before they quoted the product. The floor looks incredible two years in — no chipping, no yellowing.”

“The crew walked every inch of the shop, talked through product options with me, and didn't try to up-sell to a more expensive system. They spec'd exactly what the space needed. Eighteen months of daily shop-floor use later, it still looks new.”

“Custom metallic pour for our basement bar. I've seen metallic floors that look muddy or busy; this one has depth and movement and every guest asks about it. Worth every dollar.”

“Schedule mattered for us because the warehouse can't sit idle. They hit the dates they quoted, worked around our shift change, and handed the floor back with a cure plan that didn't cost us a production day.”

How We Work

01

Walk the Job

Free 20-30 min on-site visit. We read the slab (age, cracks, moisture, prior coatings), talk through finish options, and quote a firm price — not a range, not a ‘starting at’ bait.

02

Diamond Grind + Prep

Mechanical grinding to the correct CSP profile. Crack chasing and mechanical repair (not cosmetic filler). Moisture testing. Ambient conditions logged. This is where coating life is determined.

03

Prime + Base Coat

Primer matched to the slab’s porosity. Base coat rolled and back-rolled to spec thickness. Temperature and humidity re-verified before every pour.

04

Decorative Layer

Flake broadcast, metallic pigment swirl, quartz broadcast, or color coat depending on your system. This is the visible finish — applied with time-tested technique, not on-site improvisation.

Meet the Installer

Decade of Resin, Hands on Every Floor.

Cody spent ten years pouring live-edge resin tables before launching Sherwood’s. That obsession with prep, mix ratios, and timing is exactly what makes a flake floor last a decade instead of failing in twelve months.

Most contractors learn epoxy on garages. Cody learned epoxy on tabletops where every imperfection is visible from six feet away. That discipline transfers directly: when we broadcast flake into a wet epoxy base, the layer underneath has been ground, primed, and moisture-tested to spec.

The difference shows up in year three. A properly-prepped flake floor still looks new. A rushed install peels at the joints, the flakes lift, and the topcoat clouds.

Flake Epoxy FAQs

What Most People Ask

Serving Dallas, TX and surrounding areas. Call (972) 369-6302 for immediate help.

01What is flake epoxy?

A vinyl-flake-broadcast system: a colored epoxy base coat is rolled, multi-color vinyl flakes are broadcast into the wet epoxy, then a clear urethane topcoat seals the surface. The result is a slip-resistant, dust-hiding floor with a textured visual depth.

02Can I pick the flake color blend?

Yes. We carry blends in the popular grays/blacks/whites family plus accent blends in browns, blues, and copper tones. Custom blends are available for commercial color-matching. We bring sample boards to the consultation.

03How durable is a flake floor?

Properly prepped, a flake epoxy floor lasts 10+ years residential and 5-7 years in heavy commercial traffic. The flakes themselves are sealed under a clear urethane that takes the wear — the decorative layer never sees a shoe.

04Is flake epoxy slippery?

No — the flake texture itself is the slip resistance. Dry, wet, oily — the broadcast surface grips. We can also add a fine grit additive to the topcoat for steeper slopes or wash-down environments.

05How long does the install take?

3 days for most residential garages. Day 1: diamond grind, crack repair, moisture readings. Day 2: prime + base coat + flake broadcast. Day 3: topcoat. Walk on it after 24 hours, drive on it after 5 days.

06What does flake epoxy cost?

Depends on square footage, prep scope, and product system. A clean newer slab needing a light grind runs less than an older slab with moisture issues, cracks, or a failing prior coating. We don’t publish per-square-foot pricing — every quote is firm and itemized once we walk your space.

07Will it peel like the last one?

Not if it's prepped right. Most flake floors fail at one of three things: skipped diamond grind, skipped moisture mitigation, or wrong primer for the substrate. We do all three correctly and back our work with a written warranty.

08Do you warranty flake floors?

Yes — written workmanship warranty on every install in addition to the manufacturer's product warranty. If the coating delaminates, cracks, or peels because of our work, we come back and make it right.

Why Sherwood's for Flake

Flake Done Right

Most flake jobs fail at the seams or peel by year two. Ours don't. Here's the difference in four points.

Diamond-Ground Prep

Mechanical grind to the correct CSP profile so the base coat actually bonds. Skip this and you've built a floor on dust.

Full-Broadcast Coverage

We broadcast flakes to refusal — meaning the substrate disappears under the chip. Spot-broadcast jobs leave bald patches that show through the topcoat.

Two-Coat Urethane Topcoat

Most installers use one coat to save on product. We use two so the chips are fully embedded and the surface stays clear past year five.

Fixed-Price & Warranted

Itemized quote upfront, written workmanship warranty, no mid-job up-charges. The number on day one is the number on the final invoice.

Free on-site walk — sample boards, moisture readings, fixed-price scope in writing. Call (972) 369-6302 or book online. Pair metallic with flake, quartz, or countertops on the same visit.
